Never-issued stock certificates for the Green Bay & Lake Pepin
Railway.
The Green Bay & Lake Pepin Railway Company was granted a charter in 1866
to operate a railroad from Green Bay to the Minnesota Border. This
predecessor railroad was the beginning of what became known as the Green Bay
Route. In 1874 the railroad was renamed the Green Bay & Minnesota in light
of the fact that the tracks never went to Lake Pepin.
Here are two stock certificates from the GB&LP.
As far as I have been able to tell, certificates like this one were never
actually issued by the railroad. The book
"The Story of the Green Bay and Western"
(see the reference list for more details) has a
copy GB&LP stock certificate on page 15 which was far more ornate than this
certificate. Here is a poor quality scan of
one of those certificates.
