Built in 1959 as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe #9841
(later #841), it was one of six sold to the Lake Superior &
Ishpeming (LS&I #2402) in 1975. All six engines were purchased by
the GB&W in November 1989, mainly as a parts supply. Donated to the
Illinois Railway Museum in 1996. It carries an interesting 'hybrid'
LS&I/GB&W paint scheme. An interesting anecdote: while en route
to the IRM, this engine wound up getting on a westbound Union Pacific
manifest freight out of Chicago and was discovered in Nebraska! |

then leased to Nekoosa Edwards ca. 1979.07 but by 1981.01.24 it was back
at Norwood Yard switching cars. GB&W refurbished the locomotive as
James River #1201 where it went into service in Green Bay, early 1982.
Purchased by the NRM in 1997 with funds from the Donnelley Foundation
with some parts and tools donated by Wisconsin Central for servicing the
unit. Wisconsin Public Service provided support and manpower to get
#1201 into running condition. |
