A builders photo and locomotive data for the class D-48 Mikado
engines.
Engine 401 was one of a series of six locomotives built by Alco for
the GB&W and KGB&W in 1937-39. All six locos were retired
from the roster in 1952.
Number 401 was the first to arrive on the Green Bay Route on February
5, 1937. Its first trip in revenue service was on February 11
of that year. It ushered in an era of fast freight service
on the GB&W, and was the typical power behind trains #1 and #2 until
the coming of the diesel age.
