The last steam engine purchased by the railroad.
Engine 406 was the last of six locomotives built by Alco for the
GB&W and KGB&W in 1937-39. These 2-8-2 Mikados were the
last steam power purchased by the GB&W.
These locos played a key role in transforming the Green Bay Route
into a heavy-rail, high speed bridge route connecting the East and
West. These locos could top 65 miles and hour hauling freight on
stretches of the railroad.
