Postcard view of business car #1776.
Business car #1776 was built in 1972 to replace business car #600.
This business car is used by company officials for inspection trips on the
railroad. The car was blue with red and white trim, in anticipation of the
upcoming American Bicentennial in 1976. It is essentially a long caboose,
two International Car Company caboose shells mounted on a former
Milwaukee Road 50' boxcar underframe by Kraft Steel Fabricating of
Green Bay. This company also built cabooses #608 and #618. All
three cars were finished out by Green Bay Route forces at the Norwood shops.
The back of the postcard reads:
The Green Bay & Western Railroad is commemorating Our Nation's
Bicentennial with Business Car Number 1776. This business car is used by
Company Officials for inspection trips on the railroad.
Business car #1776 is now owned by the Algoma Central Railway. It
is the camp car Canyon View and is fully equipped with a small
galley kitchen with bar size refrigerator, separate dining area with 3/4 size
refrigerator and a three piece bathroom with shower. It is rented out during the
summer months to tourists looking for a unique camping experience.
