Freshly rebuilt #322 was in the lead of this extra-powerful consist in May
1980.
A line-up of four of the GBW's eight Alco C-424s leads a westbound train as
it approaches New London. The Green Bay & Western acquired five ex-Conrail
locomotives in 1980 after they were rebuilt by General Electric at the ex-Erie
Railroad shops in Hornell, N.Y.
The reason for the extra power on this train became
clear at New London; the two lead units were set out for a work
extra; the train then departed with only two locomotives.
Thanks goes out to Bill Christopher
