An early postcard of the Amherst Junction overpass.
This postcard image was taken in 1910. The GB&W crossed over the
Soo Line at Amherst Junction. Originally a grade separation, the trestle
shown was replaced by a concrete viaduct by the early 1920s.
Wisconsin Central 4-4-0 #101 is stopped at the unique two-level
station. Although the basic structure is long gone, traces of it still
remain almost one hundred years later -- including the concrete foundations of
the Soo Line shelter on the lower level
and the diagonal path which cuts up the hill.
